On Saturday 13th September Happy’s Circus pitched its Big Top on Rowledge Rec and the whole village was out in force to see the show and enjoy all the fun of the fair.
The sell-out performance was organised jointly by Rowledge Village Hall and Rowledge Cricket Club as part of the Village Hall’s centenary celebrations.
Of the 600 tickets sold, almost all went to members of the village with children taking front seats for the action. They were dazzled by Ms Stephanie on the flying trapeze, amazed by the terrifying knife throwing and thrilled to be soaked in a water battle between the Randelle clowns.
The winners of the Rowledge School talent show had their spot in the limelight. Key stage 1 winners were a team of 8 hula hooping five years olds: Elsie Ashby, Eva Logan, Caitlin Parker, Lucy Martin, Emily Watson, Boo Watkins, Ellie Brooker and Tara Scanlon, they thrilled the audience with their wonderful hooping skills.
The key stage 2 winner was drummer Jake Wheaton. Both acts were completely unfazed by the huge crowds and gave the professional performers a run for their money.
Following the circus performance the fun continued on the rec with pony rides, fair ground fun, a children’s disco, Coffee Spot, a barbecue and bar.
The event, which last took place in 2012, once again proved a very successful fundraiser for the cricket club and village hall and already there is talk about another return visit in the future.
